Okaloosa County will unveil a Charters of Freedom monument, stainless-steel replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Civil Rights Amendments, beside the Crestview Courthouse on Tuesday, Nov. 3, right after the county commission meeting. A second monument at Women Veterans Park will be unveiled on Veterans Day.
Okaloosa County will unveil its Charters of Freedom monument beside the Crestview Courthouse on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The ceremony follows the regular Board of County Commissioners meeting and is expected to start between 10:30 and 11 a.m.
The display holds stainless-steel replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Civil Rights Amendments. The set was donated by Foundation Forward Inc., a North Carolina nonprofit that has given similar monuments to communities in 17 states.
It is one of two in the county. The second, at Women Veterans Park, will be unveiled at the Veterans Day event on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
"This monument brings our attention to the lasting impacts these documents have had on our country," said Okaloosa County Board Chairman Trey Goodwin. "Okaloosa County has a tradition of living and exercising the American values inscribed in this generously donated display. It is only fitting that we recognize this tradition with a lasting tribute like this."
